Odds and Evens

This may be a scary window into my personality, but am I the only person who has a serious preference for one or the other? I’m a full-time, all-day even’s kind of gal. I’m not sure how it started, but I’ve had an infinity for even numbers for as long as I can remember. The heat is at 68 – not 67 or 69, the TV or radio volume is 20 not 21 and, for sure, I prefer a dozen to a baker’s dozen – even though it means I’m down a donut.

For a bit of context, I was born in 1960, graduated from high school in 1978, college in 1982 and graduate school in 1988. I got married in 1990 had Jack in 1994 and Charlie in 1998. I sometimes wonder if I willed all those happy occasions into even years or was it just happenstance?

So…. as you can imagine – the year 2020 feels purposeful to me. Eloquent evens all around. As a bonus, I turn 60 this year and Bill and I celebrate our 30th anniversary – lovely even events to celebrate.

With all that said, I’m hoping that 2020 will be a transformative year in KilKenney Kitchen too. I’m noodling some news ideas with the birth of “The Cookery”. It will be a place (in my kitchen for now, but I’m envisioning a bigger space down the road) for food, fun and friends. I’ll host cooking classes, foodie field trips, Sunday Suppers, tasty team building events and delicious homemade food for sale there. As a silly segue – this week’s recipe fits the theme because meatballs are always an even number in my kitchen. These Thai Meatballs are the bomb! packed with flavor and spicy (if you wish) these tiny treasures were a huge hit for the Kenney family Christmas dinner.
