About

Hello and welcome to KilKenney Kitchen!

I am Maggie Kilpatrick; a “woman of a certain age” and the mother of two fabulous young men – Jack (29) and Charlie (25). I am married to Bill Kenney – hence the name KilKenney – it has morphed into our family name over the years. KilKenney Kitchen is our home kitchen and my favorite place on earth.

I am a person who’s been living with celiac disease for almost 35 years.  When I was first diagnosed the only gluten free processed foods were those squeaky Quaker Rice Cakes and, of all things, Fruity Pebbles!

I am a culinary enthusiast, a damn fine home cook, a fearless recipe experimenter and a novice kitchen gardener. I am a huge supporter of local food sources, from farmer’s markets to unique local grocery stores and I’m a woman who loves to cook, eat and share great food. But mostly, I’m a realist when it comes to putting good food on the table.

Every recipe I create in KilKenney Kitchen is gluten free, delicious and a breeze to make. And although I write a food blog, I am not a professional chef, a food snob, a fancy food shopper, a picky eater, or an expert on much of anything – which does not, however, stop me from sharing my opinion!

I welcome you to KilKenney Kitchen. I hope you visit often and share your ideas, questions and feedback as well.

Hi Maggie – This is Phyllis Hartigan – your cousin! My mom told me about your blog and I am thrilled to connect with you this way. I look forward to seeing your recipes. I love that you named your son Jack. But more importantly, sorry to hear about your mom. She was a great woman. Phyllis

Awesome!! I am going to forward this site to my sister-in-law. Her kids have celiac.

  5. Thank you for sharing your blog. I always check your new recipes and I have a couple of favorites from your early days — the chicken with special sauce and the crazy good cauliflower. I have forwarded your blog to friends because, just as you say in your bio, your recipes are practical, for real cooks who want to give their families good, healthful and delicious meals. I love it.

    1. Thank you, Tatiana!

I’m glad you are enjoying it. Please let me know if there are other ideas you’d like me to develop recipes for – I love suggestions and feedback

Maggie, I have a friend with some health issues who needs to eat good food, (including gluten free). She is looking for someone who could prepare meals for her to put in her freezer. Is this anything you would consider doing as part of your catering? Your recipes are delicious, and I think you could entice her to eat.

I went to Maggie’s Instant Pot cooking class on Tuesday night. Wow! Everything that she made was delicious and easy to make. Maggie’s teaching style is very relaxed and informative. My cooking had gotten to be so boring, while working and raising three kids, that I could barely stand to do it anymore. After Maggie’s class, I have a fresh perspective. I made her pork carnitas with quinoa last night and it was amazing! I have leftovers for days and I’ll be the envy of the office! This has really been a game-changer for me. THANK YOU, Maggie! I can’t wait for your next Instant Pot class!

    1. Thank you, Michelle! It was a pleasure to have you in the class. I’m planning to do another Instant Pot class later this spring. Let me know if there are dishes you’d like to try!

I met Maggie and Bill in Thailand this past November. We were on the same tour and thoroughly enjoyed the trip as well as the company we kept. Bill told me about her blog and I often look at it but have yet to try any recipes – things have been crazy busy lately. I have shared her blog with many as I find I am meeting more and more people who are celiac. I plan to try a recipe this week to share with a staff that has several gluten free people. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

    1. Thank you, Diane!

We had so much fun traveling with you in Thailand. I hope you enjoy the recipes – always feel free to pass along other recipes you love.

      Take care,
      Maggie

Love the new site! I am forwarding to friends with celiac! Good luck! Only wish we were closer!

  10. Beth Bracco says:

Congrats Maggie! I love the recipes. Keep them coming!

  11. Patricia Kenney says:

Maggie: I have some boneless pork chops that I want to use for the pork burgers. Could I shred them in a Cuisinart to make ground pork? Also, do you have a favorite dairy-free cook book? Herself is off dairy now – makes it a challenge to cook. Thank you, Pat Kenney
P.s. I wish you all the best on your new venture. Would love to be in Stillwater or St. Paul to get your meals.
