The Alice Factor

Waters, that is…..Alice Waters.

I have been a fan and follower of Alice Water’s for as long as I can remember.  Chef Waters is a food activist and founder/owner of the world famous Chez Panisse in Berkeley California.  She was a champion of local, sustainable food long before it was in fashion and has spent her career advocating for and creating accessible, real, fresh food for everyone.  Her Edible Schoolyard has served as a model for gardens all over the country.

One of my most treasured cookbooks is Water’s “The Art of Simple Food”.  Published in 2007, it’s a handbook for anyone who loves good food.  Her recipes, methods and techniques are easy to follow and inclusive – the goal for my recipes here in KilKenney Kitchen.

This week’s Carrot Salad with Ginger is adapted from Alice’s recipe and is terrific way to celebrate these beautiful carrots I found at the St. Paul Farmer’s Market last week.

A Cacophony of Carrots

I encourage you to check out The Art of Simple Food at your local library or used book store.  You’ll enjoy hours of reading and, I bet, some terrific recipe ideas.

Also – please click on the Classes and Events tab to read about my newest cooking class – Souper September here in KilKenney Kitchen on Wednesday September 19th – join us – we’ll have a blast!
