I was planning to use this post to lament about our hard-fought spring this year. You know, talk about the weather – a teaser of warmth in early April followed by two weeks of cold – so very Minnesotan
Then on April 11th a young black man, Daunte Wright, died at the hands of a police officer in Brooklyn Center, MN – also, it seems, so very Minnesotan as the jury begins deliberations in the Derek Chauvin trial today.
My emotions are strong and raw. As the mother of two young men, I am heartbroken at the thought of, yet another, mother’s son taken away so senselessly. I am angry at the endless, systemic, racism in this country. As a white woman in her 60’s, I realize the privilege I experience every day of my life and I am working hard to do my part in this fight against racism. I will speak out, support, march and push myself to truly understand my own biases and opportunities for change.
This is my spring awakening…….
The recipe I developed this week for a Buddha Bowl seemed particularly fitting in the midst of this emotional turmoil. It’s a peaceful, easy and accessible dish – perfect for sharing with family, neighbors and those in need of a meal, hopefully around a table filled with open conversation.
I invite you to make a few Buddha Bowls this week and share them with love.
Thank you for your words—and lovely recipes!
Looks wonderful! Thanks Maggie for sharing your thoughts on this tough week. We have to do better!
