It’s my favorite part of the summer – peak growing season. The kale and tomatoes in my little kitchen garden have reached the “oh oh” stage. Suffice it to say I’m running out of smoothie recipes and we can’t eat any more kale chips. I’m winning the cherry tomato fight with the birds, but it’s close.
All my favorite farmer’s markets are loaded with beautiful, fresh vegetables at this time of the year – including the, always popular, sweet corn. Did you know that in the Twin Cities you can easily find a farmer’s market every day? The Minneapolis Farmer’s Market is open daily from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The St. Paul Farmer’s Market has fantastic neighborhood markets Tuesday – Sunday along with the downtown market on the weekends. I discovered the market at Signal Hills last Friday morning – what a gem!
The serious drought this year has made it incredibly challenging for the farmers I speak to at the markets. Please consider visiting one of our fabulous farmer’s markets this weekend to support them. You will not regret it.
I found these lovely carrots at the Hayward, WI farmer’s market last week and couldn’t resist taking them home. This recipe for Honey Glazed Carrots is a winner. Gorgeous, easy and totally delicious – the perfect combo!
Enjoy this steamy summer weekend and please share your favorite farmer’s market locations, finds and ideas – I always love to hear from you.
I was treated to these vibrant and delicious honey-glazed carrots (and several other delicacies) from Maggie’s kitchen earlier this week. They ARE the perfect combo…especially when enjoyed with long-time friends who laugh easily.
