A Saucy Situation

Sauces are sticky when it comes to living with Celiac Disease. Store-bought sauces often contain gluten – sometimes in sneaky ways that are difficult to detect. So, once again, cooking comes to the rescue as I’ve found it easier to make my own sauces than research weird, multi-syllabic ingredients online.

This zippy Barbecue Sauce is a delightful example. Quick, simple and a breeze to adjust to your tastes – it’s a keeper.

I invite you to whip up a batch for all your Fourth of July events. It works beautifully on chicken, ribs, pork chops and just about everything else. Enjoy!

Cook Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup I like Heinz
  • 2/3 cup apple cider vinegar or 1/2 cup if you like a less vinegary sauce

  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients into a small, heavy saucepan
  • Stir to combine and heat to a low boil
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes – taste and adjust the seasonings
  • Slather on your favorite grilled chicken, ribs or pork – at the end of their grilling time or the sauce will burn
