60 is the new….well….Sixty

I’ve always thought the notion of saying that an age is the new, younger, age is odd. I turned 60 at the beginning of October and it seems just about right.

Overall, I’m feeling good about being 60. I creak more than I used to, I’m slower than I was – which may not bode well for 80 given my lack of speed in general, but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. I’m also a little wiser than my younger days and, if I’m lucky, funnier too.

I’ve earned every wrinkle, laugh line, sore joint and gray hair and I’m finding that my perspective is aging with me in a variety of ways:

I worry less about those extra ten pounds and more about having enough strength and balance to stay upright into my 90’s. I worry less about saying the wrong thing out loud and more about the fate of our democracy. I worry less about planning the perfect vacation and more about how climate change is impacting our beautiful planet and, even though it’s new for me, I worry less about following the rules and more about working for change.

In terms of those three fabulous men up there, I worry less about their day-to-day issues and more about their plans to vote.

Here in KilKenney Kitchen, I worry less and less about a picture-perfect plate of food, and more about a creating a delicious meal for my you all, my family, friends and those in need of food. To that end, I am happy to share this Captivating Curried Squash Soup recipe with you. (apparently I still worry about alliteration!)

Soup for the Soul

I think you’ll find this warm, soothing soup is just the ticket for this upcoming week – make a big batch, share some with your favorite people and VOTE, VOTE, VOTE!

KilKenney Kitchen will age with me too. You’ll continue see fabulous, easy, gluten free recipes and I’ll begin to share more of my perspectives on food as medicine and it’s impact on our health. I’ll be making a foray into some Zoom cooking classes and quick tip videos with Charlie later this fall so please let me know if you’d be interested in joining me.

As always, I invite you to check in often and share your insights and ideas with me.
