Wading In and Learning to Swim

I love seafood, and have been trying to fit more of it into my family’s healthy eating regime.  I will admit, though, that I am a little intimidated to cook seafood at home.  I’m not always sure what types of fish and which techniques are best used so I’ve been a little hesitant to try.

I reminded myself, though, that my approach with this blog is to be a fearless experimenter, so I’ve decided to throw caution to the wind and jump in. This delicious, easy, Mahi Mahi with Cilantro-Lime Butter is the perfect place to start.  Choosing a firm, white fish (like mahi mahi, halibut or cod) makes the preparation easy and quick.  Adding a compound butter (just a fancy way of saying butter with herbs or added ingredients)  is a great way to add flavor to the mild fish filet.

I’ve also decided to get some professional help. (No, not in that area, although that might be a good idea too!). Professional fish help.  The best place to find it in the Twin Cities is Coastal Seafoods.  The experienced, helpful staff in either the Minneapolis or St. Paul stores are available to answer all your seafood buying and cooking questions.  If you live in another city, take a minute to search out and meet your local fish monger – it’s time well spent.

I’ll continue to experiment with seafood and I look forward to sharing the best recipes with you here. Please feel free to share your favorites and/or any requests you have here as well.
